与九寨沟、黄龙风景区名胜区相邻的茂县、汶川一带，是我国的少数民族聚居地之一。当地主要生活着藏、羌两个民族，而以羌族人数为最多。景区中，藏族质朴的木板房、羌族形态独特的碉楼散步在青山碧水之间，已成为九寨沟、黄龙风景的重要组成部分。当地民众朴实热情，十分好客。游客在征得主人同意后，可到藏羌人家中作客——出于礼貌，事先准备一点粮果给少数发言辞 的小朋友，您将受到欢迎。藏民帐篷中间是一个火塘，主客入内，围着火塘而坐。酥油茶是藏民主要食品之一，用酥油、鲜奶、茶叶加盐熬成，如您感到口味不合，不必一次喝净，可在临行时喝完，否则随喝随添，会令您手足无措。每适农历6月16日为黄龙填充庙会日，远近数百里的群众会聚一起进行物资交流，场面欢快热烈。
